Tricia Jewett spent many hours as a child recording in her drawings the trees, streams and animals that lived in the forest behind her house in New Jersey. Forests were replaced by suburbs as demands for energy and housing increased. Tricia’s concerns for the natural world grew stronger as Earth’s ecosystems became vulnerable to the needs of expanding populations. She enrolled at Radford University and received an MFA in Art. Art became a tool she used to raise awareness of the need to protect the natural world.

Tricia taught students to express their environmental concerns by incorporating recycled materials in their projects. Her experience in the art world brought collaborations with local artists, schools, and environmental organizations in the U.S. and Mexico creating large scale murals to illustrate the impact of climate change on Earth’s fragile ecosystems. The problems were clear. She wanted to find solutions. Tricia enrolled in the master’s program for Ecological Design at the San Francisco Institute of Architecture to research solutions for climate change.

After graduation she began to teach and consult with clients to help them achieve their sustainability goals. Tricia was offered the position of Senior Advisor starting the first off-grid permaculture farm in Southern Iraq; Children’s Garden program in Afghanistan; and women’s empowerment programs in both countries. The project required years of research to determine how the laws of nature worked in the extreme desert regions of Iraq. Climate resilient designs were applied to reduce extreme heat so plants would survive and to conserve water resources. The farm became successful and demonstrated how nature-based solutions can be applied to address food insecurity even in harsh desert environments.

Global Solutions for Sustainable Living is the result of Tricia’s many years of research and experience working on local, national, and international levels. She developed Global Solutions for Sustainable Living to provide students, teachers, and professionals in the field with the tools they need to understand the laws of nature and protect the unique biodiversity of our planet that is essential to sustain all life on earth.

Tricia currently lives and teaches in the western U.S., where she enjoys the beauty of the Rocky Mountains and its many hiking trails.
